Overall Thoughts and Berlin…..
Although travel may seem glamourous to those who dream of flying about the planet, it’s a stressful deal to drag heavy bags for miles in airport labyrinths, sit for 12 hours at a pop in seats built for mini-persons, eat bad airplane food, and forget what a good night’s sleep might have been. Despite the down side, it’s heaven to approach a totally new landscape, to meet people who come from a distinctly different culture and perspective than you, eat strange but wonderful new foods, try to fathom multi-syllabic foreign words for a simple “Yes” or “Thanks” and to grow as a human being by facing the unknown with a smile on your face all the while! I have been home for more than a week, having coped with a 9-hours jetlag, a 100+-degrees heatwave back home in Southern California that could fry an egg on any sidewalk, and a barrage of past due assignments. However, I want to share with you about my wonderful trip to Eastern Europe and show you some of the spectacular photos from the whirlwind trip of leading three 3-day professional training programs in 2 countries over a three week blurry period of work and wonderment. Here we go….
First, our “Ultimate SAR Experience” training program in Berlin, Germany was uplifting and a reminder of how powerful “SAR” can be. We were graced with participants from 6 different countries: China, Russia, Austria, Germany, USA, Czech Republic. We hosted Russian and Chinese contingents, each speaking to the side in translation of our English presentations. It felt like our own little United Nations village. The cadre of SAR speakers shared with us about polyamory, therianism, BDSM, and demonstrated a stunning scene with one of our brave attendees for whom this was a life altering journey into surrender to his dom while blinking his eyes open/shut on command as a human camera. The night in the private dungeon topped it off as a sizzling success for many of our participants, some whom had never experienced the dynamic of power exchange. One claimed it renewed a 30-year marriage, converting them back to being newlyweds! One of the highlights of this SAR was our performance art in animal totems.
The SAR location was actually a room within our beautiful German apartment with scenic views of city rooftops (see photo), and soft breezes blowing through the floor-to-ceiling windows that opened to charming streets below.
What struck me most about being in Berlin was the sense of peacefulness–mellow is the key word! The East side of the city, is the artsy side of Berlin, a city steeped in rich if not difficult history and cultural heritage. We took a hop on hop off bus the first open day to see the sights. What a lovely city it is! We also had the thrill of meeting world leaders in sexology from Finland, Tommi and Tiina from the renown sex+ organization of SEXPO.
If you have never dared to take a SAR with us, next year in 2015 we return to Berlin to host a large SAR in the same venue. It’s never too late to plan your travels and set your intention to expand your sexological world.
Pssst….guess what? We went to the famous Berlin Sex Museum and purchased some of the most outrageous fetish movies anyone could conjure up! We can’t wait to show them to you at our next SAR!!!!
A little R&R….to Poland’s seaside we go
From our SAR in Berlin, we took a long train ride along the herky jerky purring rails to the beautiful seaside resort area of Gdansk, the “Hamptons” of Poland. The Baltic sea is dark, eery and you can see Scandinavia across the waters to the North. This seaside is reminiscent of the recent film “Grand Budapest Hotel” in its magical splendor and grandeur.
We spent only two days in R&R, tasting the local fare of delicious fish, herring and other traditional foods, touring around the towns and of course shopping for unusual gifts to remind us of this beautiful, friendly and precious place. A Thai foot massage in a makeshift temple by two powerful tiny women was one of the highlights, not to be outdone by the radiantly gorgeous central square in my fave town, Sopot, where we spent an entire day—taking photos, spending sweet time with our Poland Host (Dr. Agata Loewe) and SexCoachU student (Norelyn Parker), and discovering.
We wandered through shops, eateries, galleries, and were uplifted by the array of extraordinary architectural gems (such as the big Grand Sopot Hotel by Sofitel, voted as one of the world’s grandest hotels) and the sheer power of nature’s wonder at the beach.
Stay tuned for Part Two: Warsaw and the amazing SAR with friends
Love and light, Dr. Patti
