Episode 3: “LGBTQ Aging and Sex”

Podcast-Jane-Fleishman-v3-Feb-2021

Episode Summary

Dr. Jane is a sexuality educator who came to this work late in life. As she writes, “As a result, my focus is not on young children, adolescents, or even parents. I’m on a mission to promote the sexual wellness of older adults, especially those in senior living communities. I am interested in those people on the margins who might feel different because of their sexual orientation, their gender identity, their sexual choices, their relationship status, or their race/ethnicity. My book was a joy to write. I was able to lift up the voices of LGBTQ elders who have been activists all their adult lives, fighting for sexual freedom. As an older lesbian, I believe Bayard Rustin was right when he said what every community needs are ‘angelic troublemakers’ and I am doing my part to make trouble in my later years!” She lives in Northampton, Massachusetts. The Stonewall Generation is her first book. This lively interview is a conversation about sexuality, aging, LGBTQ challenges and the glorious book she has written as a significant contribution to our understanding of the topic of aging and sexuality.
